This article gives an overview of the tools we use in 1Blocker to improve your browsing experience and protect your privacy online.
The app's features can be grouped into three categories, which you can manage separately to adjust 1Blocker to your needs. Here, we will briefly explain the technologies behind these tools and how to access them in the app.
Safari Content Blocker
It is the primary protection mechanism and the core feature of the app. The content-blocking engine is built in Safari, where it removes ads, cookie banners, various annoyances, and trackers from websites you visit. It is currently exclusive to Safari because only Apple's browser provides native tools that filter content securely and efficiently.
The technology used: Safari content-blocking extensions.
Available on iOS, macOS & visionOS.
How to enable: Setting up 1Blocker.
1Blocker Scripts
The app is also equipped with a web extension called 1Blocker Scripts. This extension serves as an advanced content filter in Safari. We use it to remove hard-to-block ads and annoyances that canβt be covered by the default content-blocking tool, such as YouTube video ads.
The technology used: Safari web extension.
Available on iOS, macOS & visionOS.

In-app tracking blocker
Finally, 1Blocker can stop trackers system-wide through its in-app tracking filter. It protects your privacy and sensitive data by blocking invisible trackers used by apps installed on your device. The filter operates through a local VPN profile that lets it stop harmful app requests. It sometimes blocks ads in the apps you use, mainly if they rely on trackers, but its primary purpose is to prevent trackers from collecting your data.
The technology used: local VPN profile.
Available only on iOS.
