One of our goals is to make 1Blocker the only content-blocking tool you need while browsing sites in Safari on all your Apple devices. This article is about a tool that lets us take a step further toward this goal - 1Blocker Scripts.
Unlike native Safari content-blocking extensions used in most 1Blocker tools, 1Blocker Scripts is a web extension that enables us to apply advanced blocking filters and other features currently lacking in the default Safari tools, such as more accurate YouTube ad-blocking.
Currently, the 1Blocker Scripts filter is responsible for the following:
Removing YouTube video ads on iOS & macOS: How to block YouTube ads.
Removing promoted tweets on X on iOS & macOS.
Redirecting AMP sites to their original versions on iOS: AMP Redirecs.
Hiding Smart App Banners on iOS.
More features will be announced in the upcoming releases.
Since 1Blocker Scripts is a web extension, all the blocking is done in Safari only.
How to enable 1Blocker Scripts:
Because of how 1Blocker Scripts' underlying mechanisms work, it must be enabled in two different places to make Safari apply its filters:
Activate the extension and grant it access to Safari in the Safari settings.
Enable the necessary features backed by the extension in the 1Blocker app.
1. Activating 1Blocker Scripts in the Safari settings
On iOS:
Go to iOS Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions.
Locate 1Blocker Scripts in the list of Safari extensions.
Turn 1Blocker Scripts on.
Allow the filter on all websites at the bottom of the 1Blocker Scripts menu.
Alternatively, you can manage the extension right from Safari:
Launch Safari and open any website.
Tap the button on the left side of the address bar:
- iOS 18 and later.
aA - before iOS 18.
Go to Manage Extensions.
Turn 1Blocker Scripts on.
On iPadOS, a separate puzzle icon manages web extensions right from the Safari address bar, and the Manage Extensions section is located here on iPads.
On macOS:
Launch Safari.
Go to Safari > Settings...(shortcut: CMD+,) > Extensions.
Enable 1Blocker Scripts.
Ensure the extension is allowed on all sites in the Websites > 1Blocker Scripts pane.
Once the extension is enabled and allowed, you can manage its access rights from Safari > Settings > Websites > [Extensions] > 1Blocker Scripts.
2. Enabling specific features in the 1Blocker app
On iOS:
Ads > Block Ads on YouTube.com.
Ads > Block Ads on X.com.
Annoyances > Redirect AMP.
Annoyances > Disable Smart App Banners.
On macOS:
Ads > Block Ads on YouTube.com
Ads > Block Ads on X.com
