Ads are getting through in Safari

Troubleshooting checks to run when 1Blocker stops blocking content

If you encounter an issue with how 1Blocker works in Safari, please follow this guide to check all the settings that can affect our app's performance.

What you might be seeing:

  • Ads suddenly started loading on a particular site.

  • Content blocking stopped working all across the web in Safari.

  • Ads came back after a system update.

Settings to check:

Every check below has one purpose -- making sure Safari lets 1Blocker apply its filters, and these short instructions for iOS and macOS should help with that.

1. Turn on the 1Blocker extensions in Safari

Safari can only apply our filters once 1Blocker's extensions are switched on.

Turn on every 1Blocker entry you find in the list.

  • iPhone & iPad: Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions

  • Mac: Safari > Settings > Extensions

2. Allow content blockers on every site

A content blocker can be switched on and still be disallowed in the system settings for the site you are reading.

Turn on Content Blockers for all websites or for specific ones in the following menu.

  • iPhone & iPad: Settings > Apps > Safari > Settings for Websites > Content Blockers

  • Mac: Safari > Settings > Websites > Content Blockers

3. Switch the filters on in 1Blocker

Open 1Blocker, enable the filters on the main screen, then open each one and switch on everything in its Safari section. The steps are the same on every device.

👈 A note on the free version (tap to open it).

If you are using a free version, only one top-level filter can be active at a time, so enable the one covering what you want blocked.

4. Check the Allow List

Go to Custom Rules > Allow List in 1Blocker and make sure the site you are having trouble with is not on it. The route is the same on every device.

Once you've followed these steps, please reload the page where you were experiencing issues to ensure all the changes are applied.

1Blocker Scripts

Additionally, it's worth checking 1Blocker Scripts, the extension responsible for blocking advanced ads. It has to be both enabled and allowed, ideally, on all sites, which matters most for YouTube video ads.

Please review this guide for detailed instructions: Troubleshooting issues with 1Blocker Scripts.
